What I have been told is a 5-10 degree difference in operating temps of V8 engines.
I have another question though in case someone that really knows synthetic oil stops by
here. It used to be an accepted fact that you should never break in an engine on synthetic oil.
I had a guy tell me that it is now been proved to be better to use synthetic for break-in.
Has anyone tried this or have facts pertaining to this?

I can only relay my experiences. I have a buddy that claimed 3+ mpg with syn oil in a 200 Chev 1/2 ton. So I researched the heck out of it. Found very little info to the negative.
So I put syn oil in my 98 chev 1/2 ton. Both axles, motor, transfer case and trans. I can verify 2+ mpg with only the oil swap.My motor is quiter and I think it is smoother.
I have 2 Harleys that I switched to syn oils also. Primary, Trans and Motor. The PHD Tech at the dealership did a independant test and claimed 10-12 degree temp difference on a new Harley.
I know this is a Camaro forum so I feel that you should know that my newly aquired 99 Camaro is running syn oil in the motor and rear end and it will get it in the trans too. I believe in it.
I have always read that you don't want it for break in....But it may be as JRs78RS mentioned, this could have changed. I like to do frequent changes during break in as added insurance, using regular oil.

think about it. if synthetic oil helps prevent wear of engine parts, how do you expect everything to seat on a new engine if the oil's properties are fighting it?
