Default steering column

I want to wire in a push putton start and a switch on my 81 camaro because where you put the key has siezed up, What wires do I need for the switch which will be used as if putting the key to the "on" position and what wires for the push button start thanks!

Have you got a chiltons manual? The wiring harness digram would give you a better idea, it has pictures.

Would it not be easier to replace the ingnition lock cylinder?

I have a haynes book but its no help. I've seen the one wiring diagram off this site and its just way to confusing I just need to know what color wires I need. I would just replace the lock cylinder but its going to be a drag car so push button would just be easier, if someone knows the colors it would be greatly appreciated

Not sure off the top of my head what wires you will need. But I will tell you that changing the ignition lock cylinder is a very easy fix.

also you need to be able to unlock the sterring wheel

they key cylinder has the steering lock release. it's when the key is in the off position(or out of the cylinder) and you turn the steering wheel, it will lock in a position. and once you put the key back in and turn it(like starting the car) it will release the lock, and you will be able to steer again.
