My speedometer jumps up and down when I drive the car. It doesnt move up and down smoothly. I heard you could add graphite to the line to help??? How do you do this and what do you think the problem is??

Thanks, Josh

it sounds like the cable is dry or frayed.unhook the cable on both ends and try to turn it,try to lube it,if it still feel rough ,replace it

RE: Speedometer Help

pull the drive cable out (if it will come out) of the cover, wipe it down and lub with white lith grease. some won't come out so I pull the cable, get the old drill out hang it from the ceiling, chuck up the drive and run it up in the drill, while holding the outside casing then spray lith grease in it.....may have to swap ends a time or two, but gravity will usually draw thegrease in...it'll ususally free up after a while... the speedo end is what usually gives me the most problemsso i work with that end first. On the real real bad ones i use wd-40..then lith grease

RE: Speedometer Help

just pull the cable from the back of the speedo reach in with needle nose pliers and pull the inner cable out, wipe it down with some cleaner then put new grease on it as you slide it back into the outer sleeve, when you get to the end you will have to rotate it as you push it all the way in so it will go into the trans speedo gear.
