Default Speedometer drive gear ?

I just got my speedometer hooked up and it is running about 30mph to fast. Do I need a drive gear with more or less teeth than the one I have now?
Thanks

The ring gear on the output shaft (inside the housing) is the drive gear. The one your speedo cable connects to is the driven gear. To slow the speedo down, you need a larger (tooth count) driven gear, or a smaller drive gear. Or you may need to replace both to get the calibration right. Here's everything you may or may not have wanted to know about speedo gears: Speedometer Gear, Speedometer Gears, Ford, GM, Dodge 700R4
