got a 1981 z28 hard top with a sbc 350 in it now and ready to drop in my 383 stroker. The question is, will side pipes fit under my car and where is a place where i can buy them or get the parts to instal them myself? saw a really good video on youtube with a pair on a car done buy a guy who did a complete restoration. check it out, i dont want the getting to hot or scraping on every crb so im looking for a little bit of input before i make a decision.
thanks, Micah

Years ago, I had the "true header" sidepipes on a different 69 Camaro. They didn't have heat shields, and more than one person got the back of their calf burned on them, including myself....oops! Only takes a second of mindlessness to inflict some pain. They also hung down low and road clearance was an issue, as I found out by crushing two of the pipes on a cement mogul in a parking lot. Those pipes you show don't float my boat though. They remind me of exhaust stacks on a truck, like on the old Dodge "Little Red Wagon". I have to say they do sound nice though, but after a half hour highway trip, your ears will be ringing if you drive with the windows open. I think (if you want my opinion) maybe the old Corvette style, or ones that look built into the rocker would be a cooler effect. Check out:

inorder to use side pipes i have heard that you have to raise the back of your car which would raise the center of gravedy and changes the cornering ability of your car. it may look cool but it really isnt pratical just get some eletrical cut outs.

When I bought my 70Z in 76 it did not the original motor but a 396 which I believe came out of a 66 Vette but it also had Side Pipes form a 70 Sting Ray. They actually looked great but I could not stand the noise of the exhaust bouncing off the curb walls and pounding my ears. In my opinion a car has to have tail pipes that extend beyond the rear panel valance and keep that thunder behind you.

On an 81, IDK... It MAY look ok...if done right, but I just dont think that it will fit that era of car... ( aperance wise...) go with a nice behind axel drop with flowmaster super 40's...that'll be wicked...
