Yes it will, and oodles of torque too. Why do you think 383 and up stroker motors are so popular? They use a 400 crank, and are the next best thing to having what you already have.

Your 400 can be a monster for not alot of cash. Get the rebuild done and down the road a set of heads will turn it into a beast. The biggest advantage that a 400 has over a 350 is the 4.25 bore. 350s are 4.00, this allwos for the intake valve to be unshrouded and let the heads suck more air in.

I like solids but I'm old school.
Really these days there are so many good hydraulic cams it's the way to go,no muss no fuss, solids need adjusting on a regular basis if you run hard much.
Solids are pretty much are old tech like points ignitions, still gets the job done but there are better options

i just brought the block over to the machine shop to get it magnafluxed and they asked if i had the end caps? i said no it didn't come with them. so he said i might as well look for a new block because each engine has its own end caps and they are not all interchangeable. he said i get new ones and have it lined bored but it would cost way more then the motor is worth!! so is there any thruth to this?

Yes. All the main caps are torqued down to the block, and then it gets align bored. If any are m.i.a., you have to do what the guy at the machine shop is saying. Sometimes a block needs to be align bored anyway just because of wear or age. Did he tell you how much it would cost to do, if you were to find some caps?
