Replacing subframe for a BBC?
#41
A cage is great, but it's not a neccessity when going to a BBC. The factory built a lot of BBC powered 2nd gens without a cage or subframe connectors. The subframe connectors I feel are a must, but the cage depends on how much power and torque your BBC puts out, and whether you'll be hammering it at the track. If it's going to be mainly a street machine, then I'd skip the cage and go just subframe connectors. A cage will make entry and exit a real pain for a street car.

I raced my '71 427 Camaro for 16 yrs. without either subframe connectors or a cage. I do have a simple 4 point rollbar, but didn't build subframe connectors until long after I stopped racing and was rebuilding the car. I knew the body panels were out of whack, so I added them to keep from messing up the new alignment work.

I wasn't for him adding a cage. I was answering the question on how to stiffen the car. I agree totally. The early 70's HO 455 T/A's had enough torque to throw the earth off its axis. Monster grunt.
