I haven't been here in a little bit...the help has always been great... I replaced my straight 6 with a 350 engine (a 69-79 block, #3970010) in a 1975 Camaro, and I had to piece together the pulleys and brackets, and ended up with a working but incorrect combination. It works but it's crazy: I have one belt going around everything. I just need to know the correct parts needed. The first question: How do I know if I should have a long or short water pump? I used my long from the straight six, but the bracket may be the problem, too big, and it's an AC bracket anyways (non AC car). Should I just order a set of pulleys (easier) and brackets (harder), and where from? Right now, my ps pulley seems to go out almost an inch too far forward, and is also a little crooked. It is supposed to line up with the back groove on crank pulley, but not even close. My w.p. pulley has a thick middle between grooves, which may also be a problem. I think my crank pulley is OK.

Well factory would be a long water pump. I stared from scratch 77, 350 got my pulleys on ebay, 1 at a time, but all brackets and pulleys need to match pump length. I had problems finding the right power steering brackets, used an oem from my 71 elcamino.

Yup, the power steering brackets are very hard to find and a little tricky putting on.
I keep combing junk yards.

 

I ended up with a 1 groove water pump pulley 2 groove crank pulley, power steering to crank, alternator, water pump together and power steering to crank good luck

 

And that's the way it should be set up. One belt around all of it is not right, and might leave you stranded if you throw that belt. You should be able to find an engine at a junkyard that has a long water pump setup, and get the various brackets and pulleys all off one engine. Even if it has AC and an extra pulley groove on water pump and crank, you can use it and leave the other groove empty.

 

And for reference, alternator on passenger side and you need to use a long water pump and corresponding pulleys. Alternator on the drivers side, short water pump and pulleys. The pulleys for a long water pump won't work/line up on a short pump setup, and vice-versa.

 

I'm sorry, just to be sure- did you mean: 1) alternator to water pump to crank 2) power steering to crank? And the power steering belt would go to the 2nd crank pulley groove closest to the engine?
And Camaro 69- thanks- I goofed- I meant to ask about long or short power steering pump, not water pump...I used my old long pump, just wanted to be sure- have had a hard time researching and asking people so far

He meant just that; alternator belt goes around alt., water pump pulley, and crank pulley. Power steering goes from PS to crank pulley. So the crank pulley will be a two groove, and water pump will be single groove pulley.
