Radio compatible with 76?

to start off, i know just about nothing that has to do with electrical work. i have an old 76 in need of a radio/stereo system. i dont mind if its the stock radio or not. but what will i need to look for to find a radio that will be compatible with this model? thanks

A radio. Thats it. Get a wiring harness adapter for an early GM.

Are you staying with the stock look? or do you just need tunes in your camaro?
If you want to wire a new stereo into your car, and don't care whether or not you modify your car, you can buy a wiring harness to mount the stereo of your choice. If you're keeping it stock then...you must find a period correct radio and wire it in. It will probably require a different wiring harness...especially if the car didn't have one to begin with (I don't know if that was even an option, but I learn something new every day)

Wiring is only part of the problem. I found it's almost impossible to get a stereo that fits into the stock opening. All the stereos today are made for a rectangular opening that doesn't have the two round holes for knobs. I ended up carefully cutting a rectangular hole in my stock location to accept the new CD player, as the radios that will fit are hard to find and way too spendy.
Wiring is pretty generic and even if it has a GM plug I doubt it would be for a 1976 GM car. You'll probably have to still splice wires to make it work.
