Default Old school cams

Has any one used the Factory muscle or the Nostalgia plus cams from Comp cams?

I'm looking at building a motor rather than buying one RTR.

Will use a 350 block
1.94 camel hump heads
Edelbrock manifold and carb (600cfm)
Probably 2000 stall
Looking at 3.42 gears

Not sure what pistons to use stock or others.
Wanting 325-350hp

This will be used for weekend driving, a once in awhile drag, short runs on highway, usually 35 miles or less.

I don't know what the new cams spec out to.. but the old LT1 cam is what is known as the 30-30 cam... Look it upon line to get the specs.... was a solid lifter cam... 360HP(350 HP depends on who you talk to) 380 Fpounds of torque.. with 11.25:1 compression... what you want is something that will get higher HP out the of the same motor... You want 9.5 to 10 to 1 motor so you will need a bit more in the cam to make up for the lack of compression.. the 1.94 heads are not what came with the LT1... should have been 2.02 intakes. if you us4e the LT1 as a baseline you can get a better idea as to what to build... as for pistons... if you are not going to run NoX then you can run a Hyperutectic piston which is cheap and light weight and will hold up for loads of miles.... these pistons do no hold up to spray at all... all in all you sound like you have a well rounded base of motor for a well rounded car.... these crazy dudes here will help you pick out everything you need... a great bunch of guys to be sure...

Summit has a great kit for the 350 Chevy that comes with hypertectic pistons and everything you need to asemble a SBC 350, except the cam and lifters. It's only $208, but you'll need to have the machine work done first to determine what size pistons and rod/main bearings it needs. I've used the Summit kits before and they're made up of all top quality name brand parts.
The old Duntov 30-30 was a great cam, but it really doesn't work well with an automatic unless you have a pretty low rearend gear. It's also a mechanical lifter cam, and you might not want to adjust lifters that often. I would go with the Summit Racing SUM-K1105 which is very close to the 30-30, but has 114 degree LSA, and a little less lift, but will work better with an automatic, and will work with taller gears. It is also only $89 for cam and lifters, so you save some money too!

I'll look into the cam and engine kit from summit. (we're getting to be an a first name basis. lol). These sound like a good deal for what I want.
I've looked at crane blueprint cams, comp cams and edelbrock.

I've got Summit cams in the 427 in my Camaro, and just put another in the 327 too. I've had good luck with them. I'm pretty picky about cam breakin, so I always buy extra assembly lube, plus add ZDDP to my engine oil at every change. I use Rotella also with the added ZDDP, and my engines seem to like it.

I looked at the summit cam and its right where I want to be. Thanks! I looked at the other kit and it too looks good. I for get sometimes haw much stuff summit has. X2 on the ZDDP, any thing that I am going to build will need it. I'm thinking the motor that is in there should probably be using it too.

Summit cams are old Elgin cams. If you want the sound but still want it to be drivable check into the Thumper line from Comp.
