No trunk lock, how to open it?

I got a '71 with no trunk lock. There's no cover and no lock, just a hole. Trying to figure out how to get it open without ripping out the back seats.

I've tried pushing the lid up and down to get it loose; hasn't worked. Tried jimmying screwdrivers, chisels etc. in the hole, still won't pop.

Any ideas?

Stick your finger in there there should be a part you can push to the side to release the lock mechanism

With cars of my vintage, all you have to do is stick a long flat blade screwdriver into the slot on the latch mechanism (where the flat steel bar from the lock went) and turn the screwdriver clockwise to open the trunk. Is your latch mechanism a different style from that?

Yep flat head screw driver is all you need. I've been opening mine like that for almost 8 years.

Thanks! When I read that solution I was thinking "I've been trying that for 20 minutes!" But now that it's dark out, I could see in the torchlight that there was something jammed in the hole (not the pin...). Used it to pop it open with some swearing and tweezers though and it's open.

Found a good spare wheel, some engine hoses, some interior door handles and trim bits incl. a rear view mirror, and, NEW DOOR TRIM RUBBERS! Still in the bag! Score!
