Next time it's up in the air print out this info and take a look at the numbers on your trans to ID what it is:
Muncie 4 Speed Transmissions
Thanks. I knew you would be there for me..

I will check. yes it is noisy, but the guy that built the engine in 1985, opened up the tranny and I would have thought he would have known what it was. He was a chevy freak, and to his credit, his work is still greattoday..

I will get the numbers off of it in a week or so to check. again it really doesn't matter because the way it is now is just fine because it is all heavy duty now. i am saying it is a M-21 26 spline 2.20 low gear , with the large output shaft... that is my vote...

But my bet is M-21, so soon we will know.. I think the guy is being fooled by the output shaft being so beefy. Doesn't mean it is an M-22.. Again i am happy with my M-21 and 10 bolt..it can take a real beating..

If the tranny was opened for rebuild it's very obvious between the M21 and M22 internally. The gears are very different looking, and not as angled as the M21 gears, which is why they're so noisy.

Thanks. Yes, back in 1985, it was opened. I am sure it is an M-21 with a Large output shaft. I think that is what is fooling the rear end Guy..He sees the super duty parts and thinks it is the 22.. I bet it is not, and again i LOVE whatever it is..

But when i do the next clutch, i will for sure double check. i still have plenty of clutch left on this Street/Strip McLeod Kevlar type clutch. So i am leaving it alone for now. so we are not opening it up ..
