When you pull the old pump off, the pushrod that drives it will slide down against the cover on the block. When installing a pump, I take a thin screwdriver, slide the rod all the way up and hold it there, then do a quick swap with pulling the screwdriver out and sliding the pump arm in before the rod slides back down. If you can't master that trick, then there is a bolt in the front of the block that's adjacent to the pump boss. Remove that bolt, and install a longer one that you can wind against the rod to hold it in the up position. Just snug it lightly by hand so you dont bend the rod. After the pump is in, remove the long bolt and reinstall the short one (that's an important step you don't want to forget). Also don't forget a little RTV on the gasket surfaces.

thanks man that helps the paper that came with it said to grease around the pump arm do i need some specific grease or can i just use a grease gun? oh and on the rtv do i silicone both sides of the gasket or just one side? haha sorry for stupid questions i like learning by doing but first i like learning by asking questions so i dont screw up as much

That's another trick too that I forgot about, the grease will make the shaft stick up into the hole. You can use any kind of grease, the oil will break it down once the engine's running. I meant to mention, you may need to grab the pushrod with a long-nose pliers to slide it up.
Put a thin coat of RTV on one side of the gasket and put the gasket on the pump, RTV side down to hold it in place. Then another thin coat of RTV on the gasket and slap the pump on. You only need just enough RTV to coat the gasket, you don't want so much that it makes an oozy mess.
