Actually i'm wondering if they are talking about the first gen a-arms compared to the second. I know i've seen people build frankenstien cars out of twenty different cars. This can't be that out of touch with reality. I picked up the spindle on clearance the day I was bringing the car how. And summit doesn't do returns on clearance. Not that it matters. If it doesn't work then i'll just put them on craigs list and try a different route.

Now that I have compared it to a photo I found online I think it is either a '68 or '69. The first thing i'm going to do is start removing all the crap that has been welded onto it.

The spindle and the upper control arm don't look like they would swap to a second gen. Mostly because the first gen has the steering box behind the front tires. This puts the tie rod knuckle on the wrong side.

That's a very cool chop top Chevy! Love those old fast backs, and even more with the top chopped! Somebody did a nice roof line on it.
Glad you're tearing into the frontend, as some of that looks a bit scarey with lugnut spacers on bolts. I think you might spend more trying to make a 2nd gen setup work vs. selling the parts and going 1st gen instead. You might be able to swap the steering setup on a 2nd gen side to side to make it work, but it might be more parts purchased and then not used. The widths are different, so some fab work might be needed, and that can get spendy in time and money.
Here's a pic of the 2nd gen steering setup looking at it from the frontend of the car:

Yeah I took all that off today and installed some 1/2" bolts the way it should have been. I couldn't even get it off the trailer until I did.

I'd sure enjoy seeing your project progress in the future! I love old cars, and especially old Chevys!

Maybe my memory is bad but I dont remember the 67-69 having the double crossmember like that. That looks more early nova to me. I could be wrong like I said my memory is not what it used to be and it has been a while since I have done any serious work on a 1st gen.

That is defidently not a second gen subframe I can see that clearly. Like 77nomad said the 2nds had the steering gear forward of the suspension.
