Default Need Help ..engine component ID

First off...you guys are the best! I'm like a blind guy feeling my way through my first project. I need help Identifying something on my 350 engine. On the passenger side, there's what looks like a vaccuum valve, mounted on a bracket connected to the exhaust manifold. It's not egr...what is it?

If it's directly connected to the intake then yes it would be the EGR, sorry was pretty tired this morning

I think it's the transmission modulator valve. Does this sound right. It's all rusted and I would like to replace.

the modulator valve is down on the tranny. Is this connected to your AC lines? A pic would really help!

Here ya go Ry...I think I got it right....right in the middle...hose coming out of the center. It goes to intake at thermostat housing. Hard line comes out bottom and goes down behind engine

Looks like the diverter valve that diverts air to the catalytic converter until the engine warms up.

Now that I know how to post pics...I'm going to post pics of the engine compartment, and get your input on where to start when I begin ripping it apart. as you can tell, it's pretty rough!

Here ya go...other than throwing in a stick of dynamite and starting over, where's a good place to start? The engine runs well. I still am working on an intermittent shutdown when on the road, but in the garage, the engine sounds good.
