Default nasty engine sludge!!

ive got my 383 on the engine stand and with the oil pan and intake off you can see all the nasty sludge in the engine. looks like melted chocolate icecream inside. whats the best way to completely clean the entire engine out without running it? thanks for any help!

It has not had oil changes! Tear it down and inspect everything! Then Hot tank the block.

2 gallons of carb cleaner and roughly 32 rolls of blue shop towels.

I agree with Rydeer...Hot tank it and you will have gotten to ever corner of that block.

You really have to be careful with carb cleaner. If it's the really good stuff it will take your skin off, and even melt latex gloves. If it's the sort of oily stuff it wont do much to even clean an engine.
I'd stick with disassembly and hot tanking the block.

I thought that too. I guess it depends on whether he has light or dark chocolate ice cream in the pan.

ive heard that if you pour diesel fuel on it that it will take it all off. but will that hurt any of the internal parts? also how can u tell if there was a blown head gasket without running the engine?

just for the record...i was joking lol. And i have had paint stripper eat through latex gloves before, IT HURTS SO BAD! Also ruined a set of nice painted valve covers with carb cleaner. Wasn't too happy about that rookie mistake.

Look for a white electrode on your plugs. Sometimes you can see tracking on the head gasket. Water on the top of the piston. Big azz crack in the cylinder wall, like one of my old motors.
