Muncie help
As I've stated in other posts I am planning on swaping an M22 in my Z. I am aware that the M22 has a reputation for gear whine cause of the straight cut gears. I considered this trans primarily for it's strenght and that particular sound. My question to you other muncie owners is how much louder is the M22 compared to the T10 I'm currently driving?, and, over time do you think the whine would get on my nervs taking away from the joy of driving? Should I consider an M20 or M21?

RE: Muncie help
Oh man, the one I had years ago was noisy. It also was not that easy to shift - that could have been me or that particular trans.
I think it would be fine for a strip/street car, or a car for occasional cruising. Who cares about noise, its sort of fun to hear. But as a daily driver or even a car I took on occasional long weekend drives, I think it would get to be a pain.

This is a fair weather car, sun only, no rain or snow. I'll drive it in winter untill the salt flies, then it gets parked. My plan for this car is as much sleeper as it is cruiser. When heard, I want people to take notice, not just another Z28. My ultimate dream is to be able to do the power tour. I have no plans for strip use, I want longevity, thats why I look for the best equipment. I'm looking at the muncie cause it will last as long or longer than my T10. I found an M22 wide ratio from 5speeds.com for alittle over $1900 w/a 2.20 roller first and some other goodies that make it an improvement over the origional. I want a lower first gear but I think my 327 should handle it w/a 2.73 rear gear. As for the gear niose, I'm planning a 1200 watt Alpine, Kicker, JL Audio sound system will this make a difference?

my brothers m-22 is noisy but cool sounding thats why they call it the rockcrusher. I wouldn't recommend an m-22 for everyday driving just because of that. My mothers t-10 is a lot quiete but still has a little whine and it held up to her 500 horse bigblock with ease. And my brothers always had m-21 and has yet to tear one up, and beleive me he's tested them. If your dont' have enormaous amonts of power than an m-21 should be just fine in my opinion.

RE: Muncie help
Thanks for all the input guys, after reading all your posts I've decided to look into an M21 instead. 5speeds.com offers M21's built the same as their M22's starting at $1675 sounds like a good deal for a new tranny. I'm going to give them a call.
thanks again
