Looking for some Aluminum Heads

Steve what is your intent? Street light derby, I mean good runner with the ability to pull hard street light to street light? I don't think you plan on racing it. So that said, I would look for something no bigger than 195cc. The E-Tech 185s are a good option, basically a aluminum Vortec. The AFRs are said to be the best street head out there. The reason is because they build alot of mid lift flow. That is the area I look at. A head that can flow the most at .600" lift is useless on the street if it can't flow at .300". That is why Vortec and AFR shine. A cam only goes to its peak once per cycle and twice anywhere in between.
A smaller port will give you more velocity, filling the cylinders faster at slow speeds. Like everyday driving. I run a 195cc runner on purpose on my 383. I want to build as much torque as I can. I add that to the 383s having more grunt from the longer stroke then chose a long rod because they are said to help make more torque. All part of my plan to get this pig out of a corner faster. HP sells engines torque wins races.
All this and I haven't made any point, lol. I would go with Vortecs. Then if you get used to the power and want more, sell them. Buy a better flowing head. I think you have a stout bottom end there. Your cam has spot on duration numbers for a street motor. Your gonna need a bigger carb in my book. 750 maybe, 650 for certain.
I don't think you'll find new for under a grand. Mine were 1100 almost 10 years ago. I believe Jegs heads are the Canfields I have. They used to be but Canfield went under so I can't be sure. The pics Jegs has of their heads show a freeze plug in the head and Canfield was the only one I know of to do that. Canfield came in second behind AFR in Chevy Hiperformances heads shoot out a few years back.

agree Bad, Iam running them on my 350, CNCd, 195cc, 2" ss Int. valves, and so far they have been super, especially for the $800.00 cost. Be careful not to get older Comp heads though, from Australia (I think) have heard alot of horror stories

I ended up getting a set of iron Vortecs for about $250 plus a bunch of other parts that I sold and actually made more than that on. Heads already have the springs machined, screw in studs, new valves and guideplates etc.

I just missed another pair of AFR heads on Craigslist here for $150NIB!!!! Bare heads, so they needed valves and springs, but a real bargain! I was gonna buy them and resell, but they went fast!
