Default longer shocks?

i have a 1981 camaro i put longer shackles on the the back that are 4 inches longer. the distance between the two shack mounts is 20.75. what should i do about shocks? iv looked around on summit and jegs and could find shocks that have an extended length of 22.5 is that enough

Whay not keep the shocks you have and use shock extensions? I've made them for cars often, but they can also be purchased.

You need to get under the car with the axle supported on jack stands and measure the static length of the shocks from point to point. If it's less than the 22.5" it will work, but it needs to be a couple inches less to keep from topping out the shocks on rebound. With weight on the axle I'd want no more than 20.5".

That's 1.75" less than the long shocks you mentioned, so it should be fine. Remember rebound comes into play after you hit a bump and compress the shocks, so the extra 1.75" you have will be a good safe rebound cushion.

I wouldn't. You don't want to get it so long that it bottoms out and ruins the seals or bends a shaft.
