Every year in the UK your car needs to pass a MOT to be able to drive on the road. They check that you speedo is MPH, but do not check the operation of the speedo. My KPH did have a sticker conversion on it, but as ive been having speedo issues, i thought i might aswell fit a legal speedo.
I would think it's law as all the signs etc are in MPH and i'm guessing it saves any confussion and people trying daft excuses when caught speeding etc

People try using daft....er I mean crazy excuses here too, whether it's the speedo's fault or not.

Heres a slightly odd answer. Try a place called gauge marks. They will refinis your speedo face with what ever background you want and replace the numbers with MPH. Or order the DIY version and paint your gauge faces yourself the apply the decal in MPH. Easy right?

Only one problem with that; the odometer still racks up kilometers, so it will appear to have much higher "miles" than it should.

That would be too much thinking while driving. One has to leave room in the brain for texting, and dialing the cell phone. lol

Is the mileage on the KPH speedo recorded in Kilometers or miles?
As i want to make sure the new speedo is showing the correct mileage.

Thanks from Luke

I was thinking more on the standpoint of passing inspection.

The OP will be solving his own problem when he replaces the speedo, since "by law" he has to.

Of course, you might be able to swap out the speedometer gear in the transmission - but that would still leave you with the wrong "mileage" on the odometer.
