Interested in a 1980 Rally Sport?

Hey all. I have a blue 1980 Rally Sport sitting in my parents' garage. I think I can get it running fairly easily and I'm wondering what it's worth.

It's an automatic with T-tops in very good condition except for a few scratches in the paint (from other cars' doors, I think). I would have to get all new tires to get it on the road. Any other details I can give you to help you help me price it? Thanks a mil.

Around my area they wont get much. A pretty clean one with good tires and paint, plus good motor wont get more than $4,000. Here's a local example at a car lot for sale:

Thanks for the input. On AutoTrader Classics I see Camaros of the same year going for $10,000 - $20,000. What would make a Camaro worth that?

? not sure what yours would be worth but i see some insane prices like that around me to, heres a couple examples near me

but Z28's and T-top go for alot more, like you said $10,000 lol. It's insane what people are asking, thay are getting older and harder to find but i would rather buy a 70-73 if i had 10 G's to play with.

How do you go about finding a buyer?

1971BB427 06-22-2010 11:23 PM

They can ask whatever they want. It's what it sells for that counts. I couldn't get that $20,000 price for a nice clean early 2nd gen around my area. Heck, my neighbor has a really nice 1969 SS with 350 and 4 spd., 17" Cragar SS, for under $20,000 and it's not selling.

Offering a dirt cheap price lol,

but seriously clean it up, put it outside with a FS sign, local classifieds (sites and news papers), ebay (also have a free classifieds like a kijiji for the US), flyers (grocery stores, auto shops etc.) and alot of people just put "Must be seen" before a price, "Or Best Offer" after the price. some people get better luck getting what it's worth by swapping ie: Trade my Camaro for a nice boat/trailer etc. open to interesting trades.

Oh yeah and have a bunch of detailed pics on hand to provide to a potential out of town buyer.

I would be interested if it is a true tutone blue 1980 Rally Sport. Where are you located and can you send me some pics?

To answer your question about cars on autotrader and such. People can ask whatever they want but the cars aren't bringing a very good price right now. For a more accurate measure of value search ebay for cars with bids on them, not buy it nows as they are the same as autotrader, and you will see what people are willing to pay. I recently saw a blue 1980 Rally Sport in Indy, IN and the bids got to about $2800 or $3000. They had a buy it now of $3500. That is a decent reference but it all depends on condition...

That's some really helpful info everyone - thanks.

@pauldr350: I don't have any actual photos yet. The car is still covered in dust in my parents' garage - we're right at the front end of trying to figure out what to do with it. The blue car (front) in this catalog photo is the exact model we have:

Last I heard from my mom (who actually owns it) she doesn't even want to mess with fixing it up, so again - we're still trying to figure out exactly what to do with it.
