Hp guess

1 Attachment(s)
Any guesses on hp and tq for a combo like this. Finished off with qf 830, performer rpm, 1-5/8 headers. I have not had this one dynoed, but have been driving it for a good while now. Outruns new ones pretty easy so I gotta have a good bit more with the old 350th. Does 520-550 sound about right. I'm guessing based on that I outrun a cts-v supercharged and rated at 550 with 6 speed, but he weighs more. Pretty nice built 396 sb is good for that I figure. I turn it to 6800-7200 often. Seems to pull hardest from 3k- 7k.

I guess I'd be pretty surprised if it was making over 500 hp myself. A 500-550 hp 396 would be extremely radical, and very few reach that mark. Not sure my 464 Chevy in my gasser with Edelbrock heads, Weiand tunnel ram, fenderwell haeders with 2" primaries, 2.5" collectors, and twin 600cfm Holleys is at that point.
Might run it through one of the desktop dyno programs to see what it spits out.

How does it outrun 4&500 hp cars with 2.73 350th and 3500# with me in it. Has run 7.98@97 with a little spin at 1900 ft alt. This is a sb and is pretty radical. I have seen 383's with less head and cam around 500. I'm not sure and wouldn't be upset if I am outrunning new ones with less hp than they have. Most start at 420 now and I have outrun several ss's, 5.0's, and couple boss 302's. I think you've seen the car here before but here it is.

I guess if you've already decided you have that much HP, then no reason to ask. Forget I said anything.

Already forgotten. And just bc you can't get your BB over 500 don't mean it can't be done. I have outrun a few including a 468 stroker btw.

first of all, are we talking crank hp or to the tire?

With those heads/pistons/cam, you aren't making 500 to the tire, not in life. I'm sure it runs well, but a 7.98 only translates to a mid 12 second pass, hardly enough to beat a new cts-v or a new camaro. I'm not saying they didn't happen, but my guess would be you're making a lot closer to 350whp to be honest

Only one way to find out. Get it dyno. And maybe a couple of time slips?

after reviewing this even further and doing some quick calculations, I'm seeing mid 9:1 compression ratio also. I can assure you without a doubt it isn't making 500whp with 100% certainty, not with those iron heads, baby cam and low compression.

I make over 500whp on motor, in a 408, with MUCH better flowing heads/intake and about 3 points more compression, this is to the tire, through a th400/9 inch. So to say I'm skeptical about the 500hp comment is an understatement

I use to build 383 500HP small blocks for circle track cars. I see nothing in the above specs that would get you even close. 500 HP in a Carbureted SBC is not easy and it is not street friendly at all. The ones I did where 14:1 compression and would not idle under 1800 RPMs. The aftermarket head where ported and flow tested and matched to the intake. All told about 8K per engine with free labor. Low 500’s on Comp2 racing fuel.

Judging how much power you had based on out running something is not in any way shape or forum accurate. Was the person trying? Did the person know how to drive the car? I remember a post in the V6 forum a couple a years ago where the poster thought he outran an Audi. It was one of those 500+HP Audi’s. He swears he outran it in his 3500lbs 165HP V6. Ya he did :)

Dyno it and prove us wrong but you did ask for opinions. 500Hp with 9.5 compression without a super charger or Turbo on street gas? That would be pretty amazing. Low 400s would be more the norm. In fact anything over 420 and you should give whoever built it and tuned it a pat on the back.

I'm thinking we hurt his feelings and he's not coming back :(
