Default How to fix a rear bumber?

So, a buddy of mine was following a little to close last night and he rearended me. My back end got a little squirrelly and i had to slam on the brakes and he was following a lot closer than he should have and it happened. So, i was wondering if you guys could give me some insight on what goes into taking the bumper off, resurfacing it, and then putting it back on. It's either that or he has to pay 800 to get it fixed professionally. He is a good friend of mine and i don't want him to get screwed over. Does anybody have any advice?

I would think huntinh up another bumper would be easiest. they are really cheap and the same regardless of how the car was optioned i.e. Z28 or whatever.

Its REAL easy to pull the bumper off. I have a spare but don't know where your located.

If all is well, and it's more surface issue, then I wouldn't pull it to fix it. I'd fix it in place with one of the urethane kits.
But if it's "not where it should be", then there are internal problems/damage that wont show until the skin is off.
Popular mechanics did a write up on fixing them that was very well written:

There is a honey comb type structure behind the bumper cover. That is probably broken.

yea, that's what I'm thinking. I went to a couple different body shops in town and one of the guys is a big camaro buff. That's what he said. I'm just going to go through his insurance or have him pay for it out of pocket. I'm not inconveniencing myself.

Bellingham is quite a drive lol. I just called his insurance and i have to go to a shop to get an estimate. At least i'll get a rental so i can actually drive in all the snow we're getting lol. I'll check out some spots in tacoma when i go back home for thanksgiving. Thanks though man i'll have to keep that in my favorites.
