Default HOW ABOUT 14s

Ok for the ones that don’t know. I am trying to bring fresh life in to my 79. She has an edenbrock high rise intake, 670 street avenger carb, and full exhaust and supposedly has been rebuilt bored 30 over 350. I am trying to replace the heads with a mild head set. I am also trying to upgrade to roller rockers with the new heads. My goal is to put the car into the mid 14s with this setup. Is it possible and what do you recommend. This is not a daily driver but is not an all out drag car either. Later on she might see spray but that’s only after I am sure she’s going to hold up to the basic mods. Any suggestion or input. Similar set ups.

I would think you should easily see the 14's I would go with a cam as well, maybe one to match the intake and heads you plan to get.and when you say full exhaust do you have headers on that, if not get those next.

Yes sir they are large long tube headers. And I was told the car was camed but I think it was just running like ****. Since I got the car I have smoothed out the idle and the car runs like a car now and not like a diesel on its last leg.

posi 4.11 the trany is a 350t with a f#### slap shifter that will not look in first. It shifts at 4000. But it could be due to the fact she's not ready for the track.

That’s a good time I hope she’s got in in her. 14.78 That’s a good run I didn’t think a 79 could run that with out a carb and manifold . Any here it is the bottom end is in good shape and is rebuilt and punched out 30 over. That made my day. She is in good shape and the bearings are looking good and there was no abnormal metal in the the oil pan. The problems in the top end look miner mostly due to gaskets [:@](Damn gaskets). And she does have a mild cam. I am going with the vette aluminum 202 heads due to the cost of the bow ties. And upgrading to roller rockers once I find a good set. The carb is a 770 not a 670 that was my bad. The trany was rebuilt about 10k ago and I do have some paper work for it. Im not sure about the rear I am being told it is a 4.11 But It is a posi I hope to find out this weekend how good the rear end is when I drain it and replace the gasket. The plan is too spend the next 3 to 5 weekends getting all the gaskets, filters, lines and top end in shape. She does have a good set off American racing rims and good rubber. If any one else is running any thing similar let me know about any info or problems you have had. Like I said she’s only a weekend track street car and I would be happy if I could get her to run mid 14s consistently and maybe high 13s down the road with a power adder better suspension and more rubber. As of now with the new oil and fresh gas and fuel filter she runs 10 times better i am amazed truly at how smoth she runs.

Yeah you want to stick with a 650. I think the avenger is a 670, so that will be large enough.

Yes i agree. It came with the car. I think that might be why she is not responsive at all in first gear. Once she picks up around 3200 the pull is great but i wuldnt mind haveing some kick downin lower the lower rang Could it be due to the large carb.
