You should pick the other one...
I like Holley's, so I just had to put two of em on my car!
But, some guys like the Edelbrick better, since they can tend to be a little more plug & play than a Holley (I didn't say always). It depends on what you're after. One can be more foolproof (Eddy), and the other you can fool with more (Holley). But if you're inexperienced with carbs, that "fool with" could turn into "messing up".

a holley 600 single pump will wake that 305 up in ways you didnt knew existed trust me we put an edelbrock 600 on my car and it was a absolute turd i would not recomend an edelbrock carb to anyone but we took off the edelbrock and put a holley on it and oh the difference it made and we took the qyadrajet off the truck and put a holley 600 single pump on it and thats the way to go. go to any oriellys with $350 they will have atleast 2 in stock buy one get it and an adapter plate to adapt it from your quadrajet and make sure the adapter/spacer has a hole for the vacuum tee and hook it up takes about 20 minutes and you will be like a kid on christmas mornin itll run like it never has. and those 600s are really easy to come by go buy you one and reap the benifits

305, IMO get a Holley 600 cfm. I had the 1850-4 it seemed to work good while it was running but let it sit for too long now i'm using a quad-jet, works good to.

lol a question that should never be asked. it goes both ways for opinions from what i've gathered like stated above if you want to be able to tune it more [and have too tune it more] for performance go with a holley if you want out of the box ready to go mostly get an eddelbrock. i would get a holley but as of right now i've got an eddie 750 waiting to be put on i cant complain i got it for free my dad didn't want me getting a holley so before i could buy a holley he bought me the eddelbrock oh well. i've had 2 hollys come with cars they were both garbage but i believe that was from bad tunning and care where as the eddelbrocks i've had second hand were better so i'm gonna say im neutral from what i've heard holley makes a better carb but eddelbrock makes the better intake oh and if your on a budget i believe eddelbrock is about $100 cheaper

i have a OLD holley 1850-4 on my 305 with an eddelbrock performer manifold. i got a rebuild kit after my power valve died and its been the best damn carb ive used. if you have an automatic the vacuum secondary is the best thing to run. it just gives what it needs and is pretty easy for tuning.

kk

IF you are running a 350. find something with manual secondarys. but the holley 1850 600cfm works GREAT on a 305~mild 350 with an automatic

I fought with a brand new Edelbrock carb on my big block for a couple years, and never did get it tuned to run well. Took it off and gave it to a friend for his 265, and put a new 750 Holley on mine. It ran like I added 50 HP to the engine.
I'll never buy another Edelbrock carb.
