Hi! Can anyone please help me identify this engine?
Hello
I have a 73 Corvette from California (Imported to Norway 2003). The engine was replaced many years ago, and according to the previous owner the donorcar was a 70 something Camaro.
Is there anybody out there who could identify the engine? Compression, heads, pistons, HP and TQ?
It is also equipped with HEI distr, EB performer intake and EB 1406 carb. Does this extras fit my engine, and does it gain any HP?
Engine number: 12C191812 T0505CKB Casting: GM 3970014 E 3 72

Casting number 3970014: 1968-79 350
E 3 72 = May 3, 1972
CKB suffix code for 72 means it was originally a 165 h.p. 2 barrel engine that was coupled to a turbo 400 trans.
It was out of either an A body car (Monte Carlo, Chevelle, El Camino) or B body (Impala, Bel Air)
The engine isn't anything special, unless a previous owner gave it a workover.

1972 350 (L65) 2 bolt main, 165 hp (stock), 4.001 piston bore that came from an A or B body vehicle. you would have to get the casting #'s from your heads (under the valve covers) to see what they are.
the links below are where i get my info

165hp is just stock, im sure it might gain a bit of hp with the Performer intake, the carb and dist. but not much.
And if it was originally a 2 brrl then maybe your heads were changed or modified? and if so, the cam might have been changed also? Maybe thats why it feels more than 165hp? I'd throw a set of headers on there too.

No matter what you do to the intake, cam, and exhaust, the pistons will limit how much power your engine makes. Those extremely low compression engines from that era just need a little more compression to make it all come together.
They're still great engines with the right components, so if you wanted to pull it down and build it with a set of good pistons and then the rest the good stuff, it will bring that 350 to life.
