Help please! No 2nd gear
Just replace my TH350 with a manual valve body TH350 with a 3000 stall.
Trany shift strong.
Comes off the line great.
But I only have 1st and 3rd.
The was a strange dowl pin laying in the pan about 1 1/4 inches long.
Wondering if there is something wrong with the manual valve body.
Or is the tranny shot?

Check this diagram out. It might be the retaining pin for the 1-2 shift control valve.

see page 53 in the lefthand index if the link doesn't take you directly to the valve body diagram.

I LOVE YOU
So, I happen to have a spare TH350. I pulled the valve body off. Brought it into the house and cleaned it. I then pulled that pin out of one of the shift valves and it is the same thing.
After the family stuff I will pull the valve body out of the one in the car, and try to put that pin back in.
Any idea how the pin came out?

Sorry, not sure, but I think once you get into it you may see if it fits the same way. Could just be loose fitting, or a retaining pin missing. What held it in on the spare you removed it from? It could be as simple as someone just not getting all the parts back in place, and not catching that.

Hmm, So I pulled the valve body and fixed the pin. It was a retaining pin.
Put everything back together.
Turns out I have second and third.
No first.
Yes I should have been able to tell the difference, but I guess my old tranny was really tired.
This tranny spins the tires in second and damn near pulls the tires in first.
New issue is how to get first and park.
If I have first, there isnt enough travel in the linkage to get park.
It is the same linkage and shifter that was on the old tranny.
It is a B&M ratchet shifter.
Cable that comes with it.
There is a T shaped bracket that bolts to the tranny.
This bracket has three holes in it.
I always use the second hole. It is a little front of center.
What hole do you guys use?
I can adjust the cable to get to a different hole.
I am thinking that one of the other holes will lesson the amount of travel needed.
What are you thoughts?

The closer you get to the pivot point bolt for the arm, the more gears you'll be able to get. But are you sure it's the correct arm for your trans and the B&M shifter? If it's not the right arm it wont be short enough to get full travel.
Need to put the arm in "park", then the trans in "park", and adjust the cable end to fit in place. Then remove the cable again and move the trans to 1st, then the shifter to 1st. If the hole and cable still line up, then all is good and it will work perfectly. If not, then you're either in the wrong hole, or the wrong arm.

I took the bracket off and turned it over. Works fine.
I guess I put it in backwards when I was standing over the tranny, instead of laying under it.
Still, glad cause I noticed the missing pin in the shift valve.
Thanks For the Help. Would have got the pin in without that diagram.
