Talking help me decide which heads to get

hey guys, i'm in need of help deciding which set of heads to buy, i'm pretty sure i'll be buying one of these sets, vortecs are out of the question because this is my first engine build so i'm just looking to go somewhat basic and being a full time college student my budget wouldn't quite allow a set of vortecs and all the goodies to go with them haha, that being said here are the links to the heads i've been looking at, they're both rebuilt sets with 1 yr warranties, i'm leaning towards the second pair but i'd like to hear some other opinions first, what i'd like to get out of my engine as far as performance goes, i'd like to get more "useable" hp out of it, not so much top end if that made any sense haha, alright here they are:

as far as my engine goes, its a 355 with flat top pistons(not sure on size though sorry), from what ive been told it has about 3k into the lower end, 600cfm holley 4bbl carb, edelbrock performer intake......i think that just about covers it haha, thanks a lot guys, i appreciate the help!

Don't you already have another thread covering the same subject?

I'd go for the 1.94 heads mself, but remember you are buying these as exchange, so you need to calculate shipping both ways, plus ask the seller if he will take std. heads in exchange for the hi pro heads. He may have an additional cost to do an exchange on lesser heads as a trade-in.

alright, now would i only benefit with the 202s if i was using a bigger cam?, because i've heard that the 194s would kinda die out around 5k rpms, the cam im thinking of going with is this one:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-K00052/
which i dont think is a very big cam, so therefore i could get the kind of performance i want out of the 194s.....am i right? thanks

and camaro69....yes i did have another thread somewhere here about this but it kinda got lost, sorry

Whoever told you that 1.94 heads die out around 5k is very wrong. I ran them on a highly modified 1955 Chev with a radically built 283 that would pull the wheels off the ground at launch, and ran easily to 7k.
Believe me, a 1.94 head on a properly built engine will wind as far as the engine can, and still make power all the way. Additionally the smaller combustion chambers will help with engines that have compresion ratios under 10.5-1 like most do today.

yeah the compression ratio was the other thing i'm worried about, i dont want it to get too high because i'm going to be running pump gas through it, the car may see the strip a few times a year but i mainly want it to be a streetable car thats fun to drive....do you think the compression ratio will be too high? or will i be alright running pump gas through it? thanks

i was just looking up the heads again on ebay and found another set with the 194 intake but they have 64cc combustion chambers, should i go with them or the ones with the 58cc chambers?

If you're putting these heads on a stock engine (pistons) of post 74 era, then you don't have to worry about too much compression with either. All these later engines have very low compression pistons, so it wont raise the compression from 8:1 to maybe 8.5:1 at most. Probably less than that.

The 194's would be fine with what you have, the 2.02's would support more flow if you ever wanted to go with a more aggressive intake/bigger carb and a bigger cam but you can't go too much bigger with the stock pistons and lower end anyway.
