Default Heater is stuck on

So moving to Texas exposed a very glaring problem that I need to fix as soon as possible. My heater is stuck on. No matter what the controls are set to, it still blows, albeit softly, hot air. Driving home from work with heat has been unbearable the last couple of days. I pulled the fuse that I thought the blower motor was wired through (the heater ac fuse). Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Also don't have ac compressor, so no flow would be great.

Thanks

theres always going to be a little heat coming out of the vents even with the blower off. you could look under the dash and manually move the blend door, i dont really know what one it is tho.

I also want to note that my ac compressor has been removed. No flow would be ideal. Any way to disconnct/block the hot air coming in? I've tried to do some reading, but am at work XD

Do you ever need to use the heat? You could bypass the heater core by removing one heater hose, and looping the other hose to go directly from the water pump to the intake manifold. Or, if you want a cleaner look to the engine, remove the hoses and fittings altogether, and install plumbing plugs in the pump and intake.

I don't think I'll need it until the winter. Even then, I can rehose everything, or drive my wife's cobalt. For the time being, I'll remove just bypass.

Thanks a lot!

You could put a ball valve (don't use a gate valve) on the heater hose that goes from the water pump to the heater core. Use a threaded type valve, not a sweat valve, and screw in a hose barb at each end. Don't forget the teflon tape. Home Dopey will have all that stuff.

Had a ball valve in the heater loop, but heater started leaking, so I removed it until I can decide if I even need one on the car. You can see the red handle just in front of the pass. side head:

I got side tracked this weekend. Found out marriage means I can't work on my car whenever. Anyways, I was looking at everything this morning before work, and I've decided to also remove all my ac components while I'm at it. The compressor hasn't even had a belt on it since I've had it, and the PO said it was like that when he bought it (10+ years). I saw how much clutter the condenser unit makes, especially next to the heater core.

But as for the ball valve, won't eliminating the hot air flow completely, stop flow to the thermostat?

No, it won't. The heating system is the heating system. Removing/bypassing/blocking off the heater core flow doesn't affect the engine cooling system.
