well first off, i dont think those people would laugh at you. belive it or not some one might actually help you. one time my carb was way out of adjustment and it stalled on like the busiest street in my town. and someone i vaugly knew helped me push it to the side of the road. a couple questions though. did the car sit long? because there could be bad gas in the tank and clogging up. also did u test the gauge? if you cross the wires running the the guage they should ground out ( check your wiring diagram before you just go crossing wires) and thus the gauge should pin it self. if not it could be your gauge. and also check the wires. maybee a wire got cut or something so full power is not getting to where it needs to be. just a few suggestions. i hope they help.

check your grounds, by far the most common thing I have found for electrical gremlins

My gas guage reads like crap just under 1/2 a tank, I have to guess when I need gas.
