Engine Removal!!!

i have a 1980 camaro z28, i borrowed and engine hoist from a friend when i went to go hook everything up the hoist comes like 6in to short, even being set on the lowest weight possible. has anyone ever come into this problem. please help....

I bought a section of 2" tubular steel and made my own extension. Works great.

Have you removed the hood? If so, you can slide the hoist in from the side.

I do remeber being right on the nose every time i went in or out but always go it somehow. Are you using a carb plate or a chain? If its a chain I would just get as close to the center as possible. Talk to you buddy and see if you can drill a hole six inches farther down on the boom if there is room. Thats another option. but be careful not to bend it. if it starts to bend then id abandon the idea.

you could always take the front bumper off :icon_wink:, i never had any trouble and i used a bunch of different cherry pickers. But like 77nomad said it is right up close to the nose, i chipped paint before.

My cherry picker has no trouble reaching in easily from the front with everything intact except the hood. Does the cherry picker have an adjustable arm and legs? I've got this one:

My camaro was on jackstands and I snatched my engine and tranny right out, all together.
