dumb timing question
i had the car running, then it bogged after hitting the gas at about 3/4000rpm,
a couple of my wires were burnt from the headers so i decided to get all new wires and plugs and want to reset the timing to see if thats causing my bog. i got the timing set tdc 0 , and rotor all lined up and all i'm getting is the carb backfiring, and no start. or do i have to get the timing lined at 8 to 11 btdc for my initial start correct? my dumb question is, is btdc on the left or right of the stock mark? this is not my pic but i had the stock balancer mark at the 8 on the stock timing cover marker, that would be left of the 0 and it just backfired again http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1113628790 |
Yeah, rotate the distributor counter clockwise some to advance the timing more. You can even do that while trying to start...if you have extremely long arms or a helper. The engine is rotating clockwise as you're looking straight at it, so to the left of 0 (TDC) on the tab is advanced (BTDC).
