Default Dash Cracked... More

so yesterday had the first day of summer weather. was too much for her age and split nicely on drivers side. i could show yeah a pix later but who hasnt seen an old cracked dash nothing new.

question. so this wont be a show car. or a gerage queen. im just restoreing it to be a nice driveing camaro. so im not woried about perfect just nice.

how well do dash caps work? i saw a before and after and from what i could tell im sold on paying 90$~150$ instead of 400$ on classic industries. if the dash caps work well or anyone has installed one before i would like to hear how well it turned out.

i think if it doesnt fail i wouldn't have any problem doing this to my dash pad. im also going to get a dash mat to cover it after if i do go ahead and do this to my dash someday. might get the mat soon just to cover the annoying crack. my only worry is if the heat. like a vinyl top getting air bubbles between the two and splitting the two surfaces? if it matters?
here are a few pictures

I have a dash cap / overlay on my car. You can't tell it from the real deal. They look great, install in minutes,..and they never crack again.

I helped my buddy put one on his Camaro and it came out great! You don't need (or want) to take off the original pad if you install a cap. Just trim off any high spots that are raised up from separation and glue the new cap over it.

It is hard plastic trhat looks like vynal. It's not "rigid hard",...it does have a lot of flexibilty.

I have to address mine soon too. The pad is not cracked, but it's sort of rippled and distorted. I hope I can pull the dash pad, secure the rippled edge and spray it with vinyl paint and reinstall it. Thought I'd try one of the new urethane adhesives and a clamp to hold it until it dried, then reinstall it.
If I can't fix it I'll be buying a new dash cap too.

so dash caps are harder than the pads softness? or as hard as the dash pad just stiffer because it doesnt use the foam padding in them? cause the dash pad isnt vinyl its a hardish flexible plastic correct? its nice though?

I wouldn't say they're harder than the original dfash pad,..they just don't have the "cushy" padding feel like the original dash pad.

I think it looks just like original and I don't think people can tell the difference.
