Default Converting to Manual

I was thinking about converting my 79 to a manual 4 speed transmission. Does Anyone know how hard/expensive this will be?
Also.. I tried to search on Summit to get an idea of prices but couldnt find a manual transmission.. Am I just not looking hard enough?

Thanks Guys

major pain in the **** converting automatic to standard. try and find you a junker 2nd gen that was setup for standard and swap out parts. if don't know what your doing you'll never get it done. Sick

It's not that bad. Mechanical clutch, it has a pin holding in your factory brake pedal and a bolt. That'll come out and a new assembly will come in the kit. It comes with everything needed. Forget Junk yard parts, you'll get everything new.

like i was saying the BEST way unless your Donald Trump is to find a junker and switch over that way. will only be a fraction of the cost. Sick

I think Sick ment the CHEAPEST way. The CHEAPEST way is not always the best. I don't think you'll readily know the conditions of the synchros, the gears, or the bearings. Buying new insures quailty, warrenty, and tech support! Remeber you get what you pay for (sometimes) unless you get ripped off. Same part for a higher price.

having a stick is always worth it especially if you can dig up a muncie 4 speed. If the cars a project and your looking to learn as you go id pick up an old tranny and rebuild it. See if theres aone at a junkyard in a camaro with pedals and everything, make sure you grab the bellhousing and fork and anything else that looks important. I don't know if driveshafts are the same? Manuals arent that hard to work on or find parts for. Everything is pretty interchangeable on these cars too. The one thing i noticed is i had to relocate my clutch spring because of my headers but that was just hooking it into a different hole on the frame. I wouldnt buy a camaro personally that wasnt stick because you can get way more noise and power out of the car. and watch your gas mileage fall through the floor because you never seem to want to leave 2nd gear.

Well in theory gas milage would go up because of over drive. Yeah it's easy to rebuild a trans, but where I'm coming from, you'll get your car back on the road faster and like I said, warrenty. No hidden suprises.

nobody was talking about a used tranny mr intelligent ... was referring to pedal assembly, master and slave cylinder, lines, crossmember, shifter and all the other small things needed to convert to standard. what idiot would spin $5000.00 on a conversion kit thats a pain in the *** to get to fit when you could get a junker and for a fraction of the cost and all the parts would fit perfectly. when people ask for advise, just pulling crap up on a search engine isn't gonna get it. they want someone that has actually done the deal and know what they are talking about. Sick
