Clutch Pushrod/Bellhouse question

Clutch Pushrod/Bellhouse question
I was sold my Camaro with a "warped clutchplate", but less than 20 miles on it, my clutch goes out. I buy a new clutch and flywheel, but never have had experience with transmissions, especailly manual transmissions. I'm following my Chilton manual and I have hit a major stalling point. I have dropped my tranny and now am trying to remove the bellhousing. The manual says to disconnect the fork pushrod, which I assume is the rod connecting the clutchfork to the pedal. I just cant get it off, and these diagrams suck (should have gotten a Haynes -_-).
So my question is, how does this get removed? There is a nut in the middle of the rod, though when I unscrew it, it loosens nothing. I was going to just remove the bellhousing and then take off the pushrod, but the rod is in the way.
Thanks
(BTW 350 Sag-4spd)

Thanks a lot!
Pushrod has been disconnected from the fork. It took me about 5 hours to drop the transmission, but I have been under my car for another two, trying to remove ONE bolt on the bellhousing. Is there any secret method to removing the 5 bolts? It seems like I can't get a damn wrench/socket on the top 3 bolts, and the bottom two, I just don't have clearance to turn. Once I get it off, I hopefully can finish changing the clutch in one weekend. Bummed out without a car, otherwise :C.
Thanks again!

Yeah, I never said it was hard, just that I was hung up. I had removed one bolt, but couldn't get the other five. But Thanks for the info about getting the top bolts from the engine compartment. And I do not have a swivel, and am broke (senior year of college), but will keep that in mind.
