Default Charging system

Anyone ever heard if its possible to "overcharge" a battery? I just put in my 3rd battery, 2 red top optimas have stopped holding a charge in 1 1/2 years, now I have a cheapie in there till I can figure out why. I have a 140 amp chrome single wire alternator which usually charges at 14.1 volts. Too much??

You can overcharce a battery but you need more than 14.1 volts.

that happened to me once 2 batteries in 1 year. Turned out my altenator wasn't running 100% and the repeated process of the car not charging the battery properly killed 2 batteries. I put in a new altenator with a new battery (all the same brand batteries) and i haven't had that problem since. That was probally about 3 years ago.

Pull it and have it tested. At least it might be an easy fix...
