Brake light switch

Brake light switch
I am going to try replacing the switch that is under the dash and basically becomes engaged when the brake pedal is depressed. I went to removed it and it doesn't really look like the ones I have seen online. Mine has a plug that is attached to two wires, that part naps on to the second part that is threaded into a metal mount and contains the spring and plunger assembly. Does this sound correct? and if so where can I get the right replacement? I gotta get the brake lights working! Thanks in advance

Forget the online stores. It's available at NAPA, Autozone, O'reilly's, etc. for about $4. The same switch was used for decades, so it's pretty common.

Yea, I was able to find one at a local auto parts store and I will pick it up after work today. I will install it after I get home tonight and I REALLY hope it solves my brake light problem, as I would like to drive it to work this Friday......fingers crossed!

It worked! a cheap and easy fix so glad! now the only thing I am not sure about is the turn signals don't really work as they should. The right turn signals don't work at all with the headlights on and the left operates slower when the lights are on....also, they blink sequentially...does anyone have these problems and if so...what causes them to behave this way? thanks

A bad ground will do that to the lights. Check and clean any ground wires that are bolted to the radiator core support. Clean the plug terminals at the turn signal light pigtail. And might as well clean the headlight plug connections too. If that doesn't help, pull the turn signal bulbs and make sure they, and the sockets/contacts aren't corroded.
