I've always wondered why only the upper grill has holes in it and the lower grill doesn't on '78 to '81 Camaro's. Have any of you ever opened up/put holes the in the lower grill? I would think the more air flow you can get to your radiator, transmission, oil, power steering coolers ect. the better. What do you guys think?

I would think if you did open it up and the bumper too, you might create enough presure under the hood at speed to lift the front. I'm not talkin wheely or anything but it could get annoying, lighten the weight on the tires and look funny.

I doubt it would do anything really, but I also doubt it would cause any ill effects. If having more surface area caused problems with lift or aerodynamics then the early 70-73 Camaros would really be unstable! Those early 2nd gens have huge grilles by comparison, and it doesn't create any problems.

I do know this is the reason the later Z's had fender vents. In Trans Am and Iroc series were they were really going fast the chin spoiler wasn't enough to keep the front down. I would cut it out in a heart beat if I were running a turbo and needed the air for an inter cooler.
