Default Aluminum Heads

Hey guys, new to the camaro world and am in the process of building a 79 camaro for the street and track and am looking to put aluminum heads on the 350 and found aluminum heads from a 99. Will they fit?

Thanks in advance for your input!

No and yes. If its a LS motor no. If its a Lt1 they will physically bolt on but are reverse rotation cooling heads and you will need a water pump that flows reverse. Not much power to be had either. Leave em alone.

The LT1 ended after the 1997 production year, so you must be looking at LS1 heads if they are from a 99.
You can make LT1 heads work, but LS1 heads are a different configuration and won't bolt up to the block at all.

Thanks guys, big help! I just picked up this car, overall it's complete less motor and tranny. I've got the camaro bug now and can't wait to get this on the road. I just pulled the motor and tranny out of my demolition derby truck to freshen up and put in the camaro. I do have one additional question........the truck is an 84 3/4 ton with a TH400 long. Will the trans mount match up to the cross member? I like the idea of having this beefy trans in the car for future HP upgrades.

I'll post pics soon..........Thanks again!

You will need the 6" tail shaft for that transmission.

Your car came with the short tail (6") TH350, options were a 6", 9" or 12" tail. Overall length is 27-5/8" with the 6" tail.
The TH400 with a 4" tail housing is 29" long overall (1-3/8" longer). Tail options were 4", 9", or 13".
You'll need the correct driveshaft, having a minimum of 1/2" pullout clearance.
Cross member mounting pad on the 350 is 22.25" back from the bellhousing, the 400 is 27-15/16".

They have a cross member for that conversion at PATC I believe. Could be wrong it has happened before 79.

Save the money on the conversion and have a good shop build the th350. It takes less power to run then the 400. Put the 400 up for sale and its gone to a good home for someone making gobs of power. I have one question on the LT1 heads that someone mentioned. I think you can bolt them on but the head gasketss are all wrong. I had two people try to use Lt1 head gaskets on a gen1 block and it didn't work. Also not sure where you would find a water pump the pull water backwards with the Gen 1 blocks. The best I have seen the the LT1 heads is to sell them for scrap unless your work with a LT1 block.
