Air in 2gen

I've been looking for a 2gen with air. A friend of mine tell me that the old air is a PITA to make work correctly. He said it would be better to buy a car W/O air and install it later. I would figure it would be better to buy a car with all the air ducts and just add late model air?? Any car I buy will be a driver,my stuff doesn't sit .Living in Atlanta is a hot MFer in the summer!

Does anyone have any thought on this??

IMO, if buy one with A/C, what is the condition of existing components?
Items missing? Is system working?
Are hoses dry rotted?
And if not working, least case is replacing the filter-dryer, hose replacement, and finding R12.
Always can convert to R134, but POA valve will need adjustment for evaporator pressure to temperature.
Plus labor to pump down, replace broken/rotted O-rings, compressor seals, R134 compatible oil.

Find a Camaro without A/C and add an aftermarket system - has all the updates, R134, and will fit by their own design. Classic Air & Vintage Air.

Could be the same costs, but r134 is cheap and easy to add later.

I'm not worry about the cost. I can do the work and have tools. It just need to be right and not look like a monkeys butt. Is there a web site that you know of that could help me understand how it all ties in??

You might visit Vintage Air website as I'm sure they would have pictures of their product installed.
Majority of them are tucked under the dash install and you don't see it.
Not like Montgomery Wards add-on A/C where the unit is under the dash.
