Default Advice or info on this exhaust system please

Hello fellas, my cousins has a 73Z28 Camaro and is finally going to give it some attention. Its in need of a new exhaust system. He emailed me this link from Classic Industries of some system that is said to be close to stock used for the 70-74 z28. It's 2.25 exhaust. We tried to find info on them, but came up short. But I do know you guys will give the best advice on these. I told him go with the Flows, but he thrives for original appearance on everything.

So, long story short have you any info on this system, and is it any good?

I don't like exhaust kits, never as good as custom built and usually cost more.
Why not just take it to a muffler shop.

I don't have a clue. I don't know anyone who has ever went to CI for an exhaust. Your cousin can get a transverse mounted kit from Flowmaster,Pypes and Magnaflow. They look stock except for the X pipe that they all come with. They all come in 2 1/2" too. I have never been a fan of 2 1/4" on anything with a V8.

I think most people aren't as **** about an exhaust system looking "factory" as your cousin is. Most of the exhaust system is hidden and can't be seen, and most people are more performance oriented, so they look for what works well, not what looks original.
I'd never sacrifice performance on my Camaro to have an exhaust system look factory, and any factory style system will lose on the performance end.

It is irrelevant for him wanting a "original" looking system when it would be under the car. I agree with you 77Nomad 2 1/4 on a v8 isn't the brightest of ideas. Also agreeing with you 71BB427 it's about performance. Hopefully this thread will shed some light to him.

Gfrench how much did you end up paying? I'm curious because people usually get the kits.

Thanks a lot for the responses fellas.

I paid $199 for my 2.5" kit, and the fit was perfect. I've used kits before, and haven't had a issue with them. I got a quote for the 2.5" full length system for my car from a local exhaust shop that's very reasonable, and the price was quoted at $450 from the header collector back.

$200, but I had the mufflers.
$130 to install it
$70 for the x-pipe. I could have bought online for less, but I like to help local guys.
