Cool 81' Rear window molding

I just removed the molding from around my back window to fix a water leak. I noticed that inside the molding there was some kind of a plastic insert or lining that fit inside. I'm not exactly sure what it was for but I think it may have been to keep the molding from rubbing against the paint. Anyway all that being said, does anyone know where to get a replacement liner? I've looked online and can't seem to locate it. My trim is in good shape so they don't need to be replaced. Any thoughts?

It was there to eliminate squeaks.

My guess was to fix the major problem with leaks in the back window of second gen Camaro's.... Oh wait...We do that.

That is why, I spent 40 hours and 1 Gallon of Rustmort in the trunk back in 1983 to fix the rust.

I think your both right..For squeaks to prevent the owner from knowing that he will be fixing a rust spot one day...

Hahaha Very true.

I just had my back window replaced. As long as you have decent clips to hold the trim in you wont notice that back liner being there or not. The clips themselves will do the job just fine.

As for the rust...Jus keep an eye on it from time to time lol. It'll get ya!
