79 Z28
Ok guys. I have come on to this forum in search of information and maybe some helpful guidence from those who can offer. I am looking at purchasing a 79 Z28. The car has a 350, and most likely a auto tranny. I didn't get a look at all the details cause the lot was closed today. I am hoping the price is around 3g or less for this car. The body did look straight from where I was at. The gaps seemed to be ok. It was behind a fenced in lot so I couldn't get a accurate look. Now what I was wondering is the following questions:
1. are there any electronics on this car? or is still old school. I know it has to have something cause it has a air sensor on air filter housing, from what I have seen in other 79 Z28's.
2. supposing the car is in decent condition, some rust, maybe some mechanical work needed, what would be a decent price.
3. Also, what should I watch out for on the car, any specific areas, rust, mech issues?
Like I said I am doing some research on it, to see wether or not I should jump into it. I do have quite a bit of mechanical knowledge passed on from my dad to me, so working on the car is no big deal. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Cyberbrain

Yes that car is old school
Them sensors you see should have vacuum lines hooked to them.I just bought a 1980 Z28 with minor rust but need paint and ran rough, put a tune up on it and changed some gasgets and runs great, for 2k. The most common rust are on them cars are the rear sub frame, look around where the leaf springs connect to frame, also the arch over the rear axel for rust.As for the engine and tranny,if its a 350 engine the tranny will be the same.

Good investment!!! I would prolly see if you can get it down to $2500 or $2200 just haggle and play hard ball as usual. It is very old school. Take off the emmissions carbon canister and such.
Just to give you an idea, I paid $3k for my 79 Z28 2yrs. ago, that was book value. I've done nothing but drive it for 2 yrs. and now she's worth $4200. The longer you wait the more you'll have to pay.
lift the carpet and look at the floor pans,i've seen a bunch of them rusted out, also look at the lower corners of the windsheild where the dash meets the firewall seen it there also
