79 Camaro “GEN” Light

Hi I have a 1979 Camaro and the GEN light sometimes comes on when I start the car but as soon as I touch the Excelerator the GEN light comes on my and my VOLTS go up from 12 to 14 on my aftermarket gauges. Sometimes my fuel gauge will go past the “Full”. Also my parking brake light and seatbelt warning lights only work when the GEN light comes on. If I remove the parking brake the parking brake light turns off and the GEN is still on but not as bright. If the GEN light is off the parking brake light does not work

I also have a 1979 Camaro .Buts its a Z-28 RS Pro-Touring car. .Since you are using aftermarket gauges.I use AutoMeter in mine .Just how much original wiring is in your car. I would start by checking your wiring .Have your alternator bench tested one step at a time to make sure you don`t have any shorts or any other issues. On your fuel gauge sometime will go pass full when you over fill it and or with the original fuel gauge. And get a wiring manual for your car. And if you are weak in certain areas .Have a knowledge friend help you. And all else fails take it to a shop. Good luck to you.

Sorry I dont know why you think its the after market gauges its just an added trio of oil, water and battery. The original gauges are coming on and the original fuel and GEN light come on. The added volt gauge is simply tied in to a wire that is switched. The fuel going past full has nothing to do with filling the tank it is all related to the GEN light issue. I can turn on the car and IF the gen light does not come on the fuel registers correctly, if the GEN light does come on the fuel shoots past the full ALL on the original gauge cluster
