78-81 tail light question
Just curious if anyone has done this or if it is even possible. i have two sets of 78 tail lights each one has something wrong with different lenses. what i was wondering is if it is even possible to seperate the three colored lenses and reattach the good lenses together and make one great set?

Hey if they all have a peoblem then what do you have to lose by trying it? My attitude is I'll try anything on damaged parts to see if I can fix them, but if I buy something new I'm pretty cautious about modifying it.
I'd go for it and see what happens.

Hmm good question. I worked in injection molding for a minute and know you can mold multiple colors in the same mold. But I dont know if they had the technology in 1978. I am gonna take a total guess and say they probably molded one color and shot the other colors one after another fusing them together in the process. I'll have to look tomorrow for sure, this will bug me.

I had a set that was like that on my 80, my cousin (PO) cut a couple sets to make one. It worked good until the lenses deteriorated throughout the years and had millinos of spider web cracks. There still held togetther good though lol, he used some marine Goop stuff to seal them together, just be careful cutting them, take your time with a fine saw. But like Val said, "what do you have to lose by trying it?".

I've done some plastic work and either go to TAP Plastics to find the proper glues. Best to take the lenses with you and they can give you the correct product to get it right. Not sure if you have a TAP near you, but a search on google will find something close to your area that does plastic glues.

Lol, thats the whole reason for the new ones. just wanted to show it could be done. Now 11 yrs ago they didnt look that bad, the lenses were clear at one point. I'm not saying go ahead and do it, maybe you don't have cash for another set so i was trying to help out lol. But your best bet would be to buy another set.
