70 Camero egine swap???
Hello Gents,
This is my first post on this forum. I purchased a 70 Camaro which has the original 307 engine in it and its a little rough. I have been considering swapping the engine for a 350 that I've been told came from another Camero and runs strong and does not smoke. I guess I'm wondering if it makes sense to do the swap or rebuild the current motor and keep the car closer to its original condition.
I have restored several vintage Mustangs (67,66 x2,65) and have built both "close to original" and "modified class" cars. I happen to prefer Chevy's its just that only recently I found a Camero I could afford.
Lastly, I purchased the Camero from its original owner and it has been mantained ok, however, It will need some body work and of course paint.
Any help would be appreciated.

If the 350 is a good motor, then I'd go with it for sure. The 307 wasn't much of a motor, as it had too long a stroke for the bore. Unlike the 302 that had a nice short stroke, and larger bore.
I didn't know the 307 was even around in 1970? Thought that was a later engine option.

I just looked up the specs and the 1970 307 put out 200 horsepower. The 1972 & 73 only put out 115 horses. I didnt think the 307 had even that much power, but it also said that not many parts are interchangable with other small blocks. If it were me, I would freshen up that 350 since it is already out and drop it in. Then you could keep the 307 for the originality if you ever decided to sell the car and someone wanted it original. I love the 70 camaro. Lets see some pics. Good luck.

And, I had a 307 in a previous 69 Camero (oops) once. Very unimpressive in my opinion. I would opt for the 350, but hang on to the 307 for originality and value sake.

Is that originally a split bumber? they only came on the rs or z28 rs. I just looked it up. A regular z28 didnt have them or the regular camaro for that matter. The split bumper is definately better looking and I think they are worth more. I'm no expert though. Good looking car man.

Since the rest the car has been modfied anyway, I wouldn't worry about the change, or bother keeping the old 307 either. Not many guys will ever be looking for an "original 307 car". No reason to have a big boat anchor sitting around, unless you have tons of storage space left.
