6 cylinder to BB V8 swap
I finally can get a chance to buy a 68 camaro, but it's a 6 cylinder. I have a 454 i want to put in it. How hard would it be to do? Are camaros the same way as mustangs? You have to replace the suspension, mounts, rear end, and everything else? Are 6 cylinder wheels 4 or 5 lug? thanks alot guys. I've wanted a Camaro all my life, but could never afford one. Thats why i stuck with cheap ol mustangs.

easy to install the BB just buy BB motor mount frames that bolt to crossmember, you might want to change front springs because of the weight diff. the trans and rearend will live for a little bit if you baby it, but will not take much abuse, all Camaros have the same 5 lug bolt patern

It's not really that hard, figuratively.
As firebird said the main things you will need are 68 BBC frame mounts. (do not get 69, they will not work) You will also need 68 motor mounts and get the ones with saftey locks.(I think most that are sold at any autoparts store will have that kind). New front springs/shocks, no questions asked, the 6cyl ones will put your front crossmember on the ground.
A couple other things.
Your heater core cover will have to be modified. Right now your heater hoses go into the firewall through the left side of the cover(closer to the center of the firewall) and you can use the same cover but the holes will need to be moved to the little flat spot on the middle of the cover (about 1"x3" area). Look at a picture of a BBC car and you will see where they need to be. You will also need a new heater core as well. The 6cyl and SBC heater core tubes will be crushed by the BBC as it is a much wider motor.
Then the typical radiator, fan shroud, acces. brackets, and the like.
Oh did I metion that I did this back in 1990 when I bought my first Camaro that was a 6 cylinder.

RE: 6 cylinder to BB V8 swap
one thing to remember is that if you swap the engine, then the weakest link will break first. usually the tranny will go, then the rearend. also big block and small block mounts are interchangable. they just locate a little more to the side and back from one to the other. whereas you are doing a complete swap this shouldn't be an issue anyway. I would just go with whichever is cheapest and easiest for you to find.
it you do decide to run powersteering and a big tube header though, your tubes will be tight around the steeing box. I have done both and never had a problem that I couldn't overcome though
good luck and have fun
