3" Flowmaster Tail pipes
 

Hey guys. I'm shoping around for 3" x-pipe. My 78' Z has a small block with 1 3/4" Hooker supercomps. I want to run Summits but they don't offer tail pipes. Flowmaster does offer universal tail pipes, but how do they fit? Anyone ever use them? I already have 3" two chamber Flows and would like to reuse them. Also anyone use Competition Engineering weld in frame connectors? The guy a comp told me I had to move my springs in. REALLY?:icon_doh:

Thanks for hunting that stuff down for me. I was refering to this set of tail pipes. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLO-15822/ I was wondering if anyone had trouble getting them around the leaf spring and over the axel. I'm for sure using this x-pipe though http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-642130/. The pypes one is nice but I don't need one in stainless. If they offered direct fit stainless tailpipes now thats another story. The complete kit is only 2.5" although I am thinkin on it real hard.

Take some careful measurements side-to-side, and the total length of those x-pipes to make sure they are going to clear everything under the car, especially the driveshaft in relation to where the "x" is. An H-pipe might be easier to work with, as far as length fitment and the ability to dog-leg it lower if you need to for clearance.

The Summit kit will bolt right on, and really a 2.5" will probably work better than a 3", unless your engine is really built. With a mild or moderate build a 3" exhaust wont give you enough back pressure to perform well. You may lose some power with an engine that's not really built.
The Pypes X pipes will work, as you can turn the X forward or back to get the right placement to clear whatever. Usually having the X right behind the trans crossmember works best. But Camaros have limited ground clearance, so any big exhaust system will further restrict the amount of clearance you have.

Top to bottom. 750 Proform carb, Performer RPM Air Gap (Victor Jr. in pic), Crane Gold roller rockers, Canfield 195 heads angle milled to 58cc, Comp springs, Stud Girdle, Lunati Voodoo HR, Cloyes Hex-a-just timing set, Cloyes 2-piece timing cover, Scat 9000 Stroker crank, Scat 6' rods 7/16" cap screws, Kieth Black pistons, Milodon stroker pan and 1 3/4" Hooker Super Comps. Not wild by no means. Lookin for about 475 hp. And I'm not tryin to brag. Just sayin I have a pretty good idea of what I want. You have a good point on ground clearance, a really good point. Stainless is nice in that it won't rust. I'm going to have to think real hard on it. About those frame connecters?

Sounds like you've got plenty of engine, and 3" wont be a problem. I'm running a little less than your HP, and 2.5" exhaust works great for my 427.
