hey everyone new here but might seen me on FBO. i got a 1979 camaro the other day and its going to be fun to put her back together. so ima get right to the questions but. i replaced some broken parts already like a rusted master cylinder and bled breaks. cleaned interior and new radiator. cleaned the sludge out of the TH350 because the old radiator cracked at the ATF tank and they mixed. getting it flushed asap.

the next problem is. i have a feeling this 350 was cammed before i got it and i dont know the cam or any thing. no specs. it wont idle around 850~ its been idling around 1200~ and it will stall in gear after a few mins so the idle has to be higher. my dad thinks its got a mild RV cam but idk what its got.? i got a vacuum gauge hooked up and some vacuum port covers but its on the edge of early or late timing and normal. its an old gauge so it tells yeah. after you get past idle it runs smooth. it misses a little sometimes but yeah. the idle mixture screws were flipin 6 turns out from snug so im setting them out to 2 turns. its got a Qjet 4bbl. can someone give me some ideas on how to figure out my cam problem and slow this idle down but keep it stable? i got a timeing light i was going to check the timing on it and will get that for u guys soon
