1978 camaro z28 tranny + motor question
Ok i dropped the tranny for a rebuild today and found out it was not matching numbers to the motor as i was told with purchase. In fact the tranny has 82 caprice written on it with a junk yard id code. Can some one tell me if this is still a th350? Can any one tell me about this transmission. Also where can i find the casting number on such a tranny? Does anyone kno where i can find one on the motor so i can tell if it is 2 or 4 bolt main and mabye a good website to reference these numbers agianst? Thanks for any input i kno this is a post with tons of questions but any help is appricated!!
Look at the transmission pan and if it looks like a square with one corner chopped off then it is a turbo 350. Not sure where the numbers on the tranny would be, basically all the same except for speedometer gears and long or short tailshaft. If the pan is square then it should be a Turbo 400 as long as you have 3 forward gears. I can't recall what the power glide pan looks like but it only has two forward gears so you would for sure know if you had one of those! The numbers on the motor should be (I think) on the drivers side rear on a little ledge. May be a bugger to see, depending on how much room you have to work with.
